My boyfriend highly suggested we read this book together and discuss and I'm glad he did! The author makes a lot of great points that can be applied to friendships, relationships, and business acquaintances. It starts out as a fun read because you'll spend a portion of the book saying, who am I? Then you'll pick our characteristics from a certain color that fit your personality & try to explain why you do the things you do. After that you'll likely start to analyze those around you. The book really helps you to understand why 'blues' ask 100 questions, want to problem solve all the time, always ask for more information, and can be cold and distant instead of being emotional creatures. Yellows on the other hand are always day dreaming, coming up with broad ideas, trying to plan social gatherings and always seemingly have their 'head in the clouds' (this is totally me). Reds can seem really aggressive, very dominant, demanding, and short with those around you, and frankly they can't help it, and greens are very amiable. They agree to everything, but are often afraid to speak their mind.It all made sense to me after reading it and I started calling my friends by the color I thought belonged to them. I consider myself a 'yellow' and I often date 'blues' which can often cause many misunderstandings! We're just people oriented and blues are more 'task-oriented/problem solvers'.Highly recommend this book! Great, easy read, and excellent conversation starter! On the face of it, we should be wary of any book telling us that our personal behaviour falls under four types only, and worse, that they are given colour coding. In fact, the colour coding is just the convenient names for each of the types. Once we realise that Erikson is describing types in general, and that within each type, we can find qualities of another, the general thesis sounds plausible. The author is not strictly classifying everyone under broad categories, he accepts that Green people may have traits that belong to a Red person. One has to see the broad canvass and the big picture he is painting. On this score, those who are critical about this book are probably Blue people.Each of the four colour types – Red, Yellow, Green, and Blue – have distinctly strong characteristics. For example, Red people see themselves as: Driven, resolute, ambitious, decisive, competitive, independent, prompt, determined, time-conscious, persuasive, strong-willed, and results bound. Green people, on the other hand, see themselves as: friendly, calm, reliable, considerate, pleasant, patient, predictable, stable, team-player, discreet, thoughtful, and good listeners. Yellow people are: enthusiastic, charming, outgoing, inspiring, optimistic, flexible, open, creative, spontaneous, convincing, easygoing, and communicative. Blue people are: accurate, cautious, correct, detail-oriented, logical, methodical, orderly, quality-oriented, reflective, systematic, thorough, and unassuming. The book is much more than these general descriptions of behavioural types, of course. It discusses how the types of people react under certain situations, and how on given issues, we should best deal with them because the method of talking to a Red man in public is utterly inappropriate for a Green man.
